Lets try this again, haha. Last year I got to May before I stopped posting monthly blogs of my favorite photos, but I really like doing this because I like looking back at my photos and learning what I can do better next time. So, here are my favorite photos of January 2018!Read More
I recently shot some photos of the awesome dudes in Racing On The Sun for their upcoming tour with Hour 24. There's a TON, but I'm really happy with all of them, so I couldn't just choose a couple, haha. Go check these guys out if you haven't already or catch them when they're on tour later this summer! They're amazing.
Let me just start this off by saying that I've been SUPER pumped about this show for a while. I love Silverstein and I have since I was like 13, Discovering The Waterfront is one of my favorite albums of all time, and I knew I had to shoot this show! On top of that, My Iron Lung was opening for them, and not only do I love shooting them, they're also some pretty awesome people.
So on top of shooting the show, I came down a little early and did some photos with My Iron Lung, as well. Took some on stage photos of them and Silverstein, as well, which made me feel pretty cool. It was my first time shooting on stage at Summit, so I know I still have a bit to learn as far as angles and the best places to get the best shots, but I'm really happy with my photos!
Below are some of my favorite photos from my shoot with My Iron Lung before the show! There was pretty limited light because the sun was going down, and limited time so I didn't set up my lighten equipment, but I'm still really happy with these shots. These guys were awesome to shoot with.
I've been ridiculously busy lately, so I haven't gotten the chance to update my blog with the most recent sets of band promos I've taken over the past few months. BUT, now that I have a day off to relax, I figured I would share some of my favorite shots from my most recent shoots with Skyburial and innerspace.
Both of these shoots were for the cover features of The Prelude Press, and I happened to shoot both of them with my D5000, rather than my D700 (which I usually use) because it was still in the shop. Before each of these shoots, I was a little bummed that I wasn't shooting with my usual gear and nervous that I wouldn't get any photos I'd like, but I guess this is proof that it doesn't matter what gear you're using - it's the photographer that matters. (That may sound a little conceited, but I don't care - I'm really genuinely happy with these shots!)
For the innerspace shoot, we shot a little around a lake and then hiked up Chautauqua park in Boulder. Lugging all of my lighting gear up the trail sucked, but I'm in love with these photos.
My shoot with Skyburial was a little more interesting. We tried to shoot outside in the snow, but the battery pack for my flash malfunctioned. We tried to shoot inside the house, but the ceilings were too low and I accidentally broke the modeling light on my flash. We went to shoot in the band's practice studio, but it was being used. Finally, we ended up in an unfinished basement, which was (thankfully) the perfect setting for the shoot. Again, I was worried about how these photos would turn out, but I love them!
I got the chance recently to chat with Hance Alligood of Favorite Weapon before their show in Denver. Awesome dude and awesome interview. You can read my entire article on the band at The Prelude Press. Below are some of my favorite photos I took of him. We didn't really have the time or space to take a ton, but I'm still pretty happy with how they came out!
