Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival, Day 1 @ The Fillmore, 7/13/14

Having never shot an actual festival before, I was pretty stoked going into Mayhem Fest. The Denver dates (yes I said dates) were weird, though, because they actually broke the tour up into two separate days at two different venues. But while this first day didn't really feel like a festival since it was indoors, there were a crapload of bands a ton of photographers there, so that kind of made up for it.

Lighting at The Fillmore wasn't amazing and I didn't get a ton of photos that I loved, but the few I did like I was really happy with. It's always a pleasure shooting Miss May I and I had a ton of fun shooting the majority of these bands for the first time, especially Suicide Silence and Mushroomhead.

Also, my fellow photographer, Svetlana Joukova is an absolute saint and a wonderful photo pit buddy and I'm super grateful that she decided to give me her extra photo pass for both days of Mayhem Fest. I'm totally sucking up, but I don't care - I wouldn't rather shoot next to anyone else, haha.

Skrillex @ Red Rocks, 6/21/14

The first time I shot Skrillex, I was completely overwhelmed. It was my first big show at a venue with a capacity of over 6,000 and on top of that, I'd never shot an electronic show before. I didn't know what to expect (there ended up being a giant haunted house and pyrotechnics) or how to shoot it and looking back on it, I really don't like my photos from that show. Needless to say, it was a learning experience.

That was two years (and plenty of electronic shows) ago, however, and this time when Skrillex came around, I like to think I was much more prepared. Not to mention, the show was at Red Rocks and, since it would only be my second time shooting there, I couldn't pass it up.

Overall, I'm super happy with how my second round of Skrillex photos turned out. The fans at these kinds of shows are always really fun to photograph, especially the guy in the tutu, who you will see a crapload of pictures of further down. And the stage at Red Rocks is low (thankfully) so he couldn't hide behind a booth or his massive space ship and I actually managed to get some cool looking photos that I'm really proud of.

Twenty One Pilots & more @ The Ogden, 5/16/14

This was my first time shooting Twenty One Pilots (as well as the other two bands on this bill) and I certainly hope it won't be my last. They're a band that just doesn't disappoint live, and that definitely translates into photos well. They were incredibly fun to shoot (while a little difficult to at times because Tyler moves around so much) and I really hope I get the chance to photograph them again!

Devil's Dance Tour @ The Gothic Theatre, 5/14/14

This show was so much fun! On top of getting the chance to sit down and chat with Craig Owens as well as do a quick couple of photos with him, I also got a ton of photos that I am super happy with of not only Chiodos, but all of the opening bands as well. I also got to shoot alongside one of my favorite photographers (Ashley Osborn) so that was pretty awesome, too!

My favorite thing in the world is also when band members interact with photographers, and that made 68 an absolute dream to shoot. Josh laying his guitar on the hood of my lens while I took photos of him was the highlight of the night, closely followed by Bradley Walden spending half of Emarosa's set singing along with fans in the crowd. Overall, this show was just amazing to shoot!

letlive., Architects, Glass Cloud & I The Mighty @ The Marquis, 4/25/14

I absolutely adore shooting letlive. Not only are they some of the best dudes in the world, they're also the most energetic and fun band to watch (at least in my opinion.) I've shot them at least 5 times and every single time is different. Every single time, Jason is doing something just as crazy - if not crazier - than the last, including jumping off of balconies, leaping into the crowd even before the first line of the first song or climbing up some of the sketchiest looking speakers and bars I've ever seen. I've seen him and Jeff leap into the drum kit at the end of their set, practically beating themselves up just for the sake of a great live show and I've seen Jason go just as crazy, even with a sling around his arm because he decided it would be a good idea to punch out a window at one of their previous shows.

Honestly, if you've never seen letlive. - even if you're not into their music - they're a band that I think everyone should see at least once in their life. They just put so much heart and soul into their music and live performances that it's impossible not to like them, and it's always an absolute pleasure to take photos of these boys.

On top of getting to shoot letlive. at their second date on this tour, I also got the chance to take photos of I The Mighty and Architects, who were a dream to shoot, and Glass Cloud, who are another one of my favorite bands to photograph. Honestly, if you have a chance to make it out to this tour, I highly suggest it. All of these bands are great.
